November 17, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Promoting Reflection and Metacognition: Practical, Research-based Strategies for Deeper Learning

1:00-2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 in Beard 200 & Karpen 103

Tom Angelo, Ed.D., CIPhER Executive Director
Clinical Professor of Educational Innovation and Research

Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education

In many PharmD courses – as well as during experiential learning – students are asked to “reflect” or “reflect critically” on their experiences. But how well do learners actually understand what we are asking them to do, how to do it, and whether they are succeeding?  In this interactive, hands-on session, you’ll try out effective, practical strategies for explaining, teaching, assessing and giving feedback on reflection and metacognition to adapt to your teaching and course design. The session will also provide insights into and citations for relevant research underpinning these “deep” teaching and learning strategies.

Box lunches will be provided – for RSVPs only – from 12:30-1:00 p.m..

Please RSVP – “Yes 11/17” only – to cipher@unc.edu by 5 p.m. Weds. Nov. 15.
