CIPhER Friday Seminar – Preparing Students to Communicate About Sensitive Topics with Patients

In today’s practice environment, pharmacists may encounter situations in which they need to discuss sensitive topics, such as drug use, overdose, or suicide, with patients.  But are we currently preparing students to effectively engage patients in these sensitive discussions? In this session, participants will view and evaluate materials, such as videos and role plays that are currently being used to teach pharmacist how to communicate about sensitive topics.  Participants will also explore the potential of using simulated patients to teach students effective communication skill.  Delesha Carpenter, PhD, MSPH Asst.
