“Inhaled Therapy for Tuberculosis: Collaborations, Alliances and Translational Strategy”

Date:    June 7

Time:   11 – 11:45 a.m.

Place:   G030 Bondurant

Drug resistant tuberculosis is a serious global health threat. Inhaled therapy may be a valuable addition to the treatment regimen in the absence of effective new drugs. Pharmaceutical industry interest in tuberculosis is not proportionate to the high incidence of disease. Consequently, innovation and translation depends on complex collaborations, alliances and creative funding approaches, which are challenges similar to the situation with rare and orphan diseases. Experience from development of inhaled therapy for TB may be relevant to other areas of unmet medical need such as catalyzing therapeutic development for rare diseases.
